My San Diego roots often influence my color, subject matter, and layout choices. This mural offers another extension of that directional pull. Embarking on a scouting expedition in my hometown to find a clean slate for art, I toured the streets of Carlsbad Village. Falling short of my vision, I was reminded of a venue serving up childhood tales. The Dove Library, where I got my first official card, would be the perfect architectural backdrop for this mural, blending a beach-infused theme.

Now armed with photos of the exterior structure and a personal experience of its usage, I then began sketching drafts of artwork to apply to the blank wall. The goal here was to visually communicate a conceptual message in line with the public space and use technical specifications within vector-based design.
I wanted the viewer to feel they were coming straight across the crosswalk into the beachtown library for a fun read, just as I had done many times before.
